Parent's Guide to Play

So you’ve taken the plunge and are immersing your young child in the world of math. Congratulations!

Your child is having fun learning about numbers, but you’re concerned that you may not be getting the most out of the game? Not to worry. We are here to help.

We suggest you use these tips to optimize your child’s learning experience:

1. Discover the game together with your child

Learning together is a great way to share a precious moment with your child. Use this opportunity to create a positive and happy experience. This will help the child want to learn, while creating some fond memories.

2. Let your child play

It’s human nature to want to take charge and guide your child. Instead, observe, smile and ask questions. Sit back and watch your child play. Try not to interpret the game or take control. Let your child be in charge. They love that!

3. Talk with your child

Conversation is key when playing together with your child. If your kid faces a challenge, ask questions that you think can help your child figure it out. Gently guide your child to help them explore options on their own. Instead of explaining everything, let your kid explore and find the solution themselves.

4. Make it fun

Conversation is key when playing together with your child. If your kid faces a challenge, ask questions that you think can help your child figure it out. 5. Go easy on the jargon

Make sure that your child is always having fun and enjoying the game. To avoid overplaying, we recommend 30 minutes of play per session, but every child is different. You know your child best. You know when they’ve reached their limit, so watch for signs of tiredness or frustration. Kids will learn more if they are well rested.

6. Be patient and supportive

While these concepts are second nature to you, it’s a lot for a young child to absorb. Try not to set any expectations, and just let your child play at their own pace. Remember to avoid judgment, competition and stress, as this can lead to frustration.Your child should be engaged and happy whenever they play.

7. Relax

As a parent, eager for your child to learn, it’s natural to want to check what your child has learned. Try not to pressure your child. When your child is ready, they’ll apply it with confidence. The real test will be how well they can apply it in everyday life. Talk to your child when out shopping or driving. Using real examples will determine how they can apply what they learned. Without the stress of a formal assessment, your child will naturally and confidently demonstrate their understanding.
